Stains on your carpet are never fun! People generally spend thousands of dollars on carpeting their home, so looking down and seeing little spots, or a big messy stain can be heartbreaking. Luckily, BLUE TEAM carpet cleaning of Edmonton, Ab has some advice on immediate action that you can take to prevent the stains from becoming permanent!

1 Blood: As gross as it sounds, blood is a common stain and one of the hardest to remove. The key is to remove it as quickly as possible before it sets into the carpet fibers. Use a clean white (or very light-colored) cloth and grab some cold water mixed with a bit of dish soap. Put the mixture on the stain, rinse with water, and then blot dry. Repeat until the blood is gone. You can also use an ammonia solution to remove the stain if the dish soap isn’t working.

2 Red Wine: Wine drinkers can attest that it is horrifying to see that wine glass slipping out of someone’s hand! Red wine can be extremely difficult to remove, but not impossible. Using your clean, dry white cloth first blot to remove the excess liquid. Then mix some water, and white vinegar together and dab onto the stain. Rinse with water, blot dry, and repeat if necessary. If stain is not coming out with just vinegar, apply a small amount of dish soap to the stain, clean, rinse and blot dry.

3 Pet “Mess”: Sometimes our furry friends aren’t very carpet-friendly! If your pet has an accident, remove and dispose of any solid mess first, and then blot any remaining liquid mess up with paper towels. Usually, water and a small amount of dish soap can be dabbed onto the stain and blotted up, removing it completely. You also may want an odor neutralizer like baking soda to sit on the area after it’s dry; vacuum the baking soda up after 15 minutes. Do not use an ammonia-based solution s this may encourage some pets to keep soiling the area.

4 Ink: Ink is extremely difficult to get out, especially if it has set. The key to removing this annoying stain is to blot, not rub – rubbing can cause the stain to spread. Using dish soap and water, dab the solution into the spot and then rinse and blot dry. Repeat this method until the stain is gone. If all else fails, nail polish remover, hairspray or isopropyl alcohol can also help remove the ink.

5 Coffee: Who hasn’t spilled their coffee on the way to their computer or coffee table? This stain can be removed by adding a bit of vinegar to the stained area, blotting the excess liquid off the carpet, and then using water and dish soap to clean the area. Rinse with water and blot dry.
When cleaning stains always remember:

Test an inconspicuous area of your carpet first to make sure the color does not disappear.
Use cold or room temperature water for most stains – hot water may set the stain even more.
Always use a clean white cloth or towel.
Blot! Don’t rub.
Don’t use more cleaning solutions than is necessary – you don’t want your carpet backing to be flooded.
